Dear reader,
My name is Nadine Wang Ying The, born and bred in the Netherlands but from Chinese Indonesian origin. Since I could talk I requested my parents to play the violin, and at the age of 5 I received my first lesson.
Only because of my Chinese fellow students whom I met during my Master's degree, my interest in China awoke.
They encouraged me to learn more about my roots, and in 2003 I took off to China for 3 months. Since then, I'm intrigued by the country and its people. My previous jobs always allowed me to work with China, however in the autumn of 2005 I decided I wanted to live and work in China itself. Because of my my involvement with the organization of a Dutch aerospace trade mission in January 2006, I met Martin Hartman and we came to talk about his two daughters and his passion for China. With him in the Netherlands and myself in China, it was soon decided to start the foundation "Music for Chinese Children".
Since looking Chinese but hardly speaking the language makes daily life here more complex than it already is (compared to living in the Netherlands), I decided to study Chinese in Beijing.
I'm grateful to have the opportunity to organize and perform during concerts for orphans. With your
(financial) support, we hope to give many more of China's orphans a day to remember!
Kind Regards
Nadine
